[dropcap style=”style1″]”M[/dropcap]y dad was a mechanic growing up, so I grew up around cars,” said Chris Senkow, the owner of a beautiful 2002 Volkswagen GTI which has raced its way into our April 2015 Ride of the Month spot.

A Volkswagen guy at heart, Chris’ first car was a 1968 VW Beetle. From there, he progressed to a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T. However he remembers the first car to break his neck wasn’t of German decent, but rather a 1969 Chevelle SS, “I loved that car when I was a kid.” In his later years he even spent time working on a 1989 Chevy Camaro IROC Z.

For Chris Senkow the best part of his 2002 Volkswagen GTI is the Turbo because he loves hearing it spool. “I wanted the hatchback” Chris said when asked why this model appealed to him so much. The original goal of the build was for the car to be a high power show car, but two years later with a brief intermission of the build when his Son was born, Chris is getting the car set up for track use and plans to add a roll cage, race seats, harnesses, battery relocate, and add lightweight wheels and slicks. In between race events, Chris likes to find himself next to V8’s on the freeway.

The GTI has been mostly garage built with some help from different shops around the valley. The most frustrating part of the build for Chris was the catch can set up, “It was difficult figuring out how I wanted to route the hoses and fittings.”

The Exterior of the car sports shaved front and rear bumpers with a 20th anniversary valance, and MK5 style hella headlights give the car an aggressive look.

The interior of this car is a stunning combination of black suede and leather with gray sticking found in the doors, shift knob and boot as well as the custom Konig K5000 seats.

Under the hood leaves us near speechless as we couldn’t take our eyes away from the AGP Zeta 3.0 Turbo.
