Enzo Ferrari died in August 1988, and that year, McLaren won 15 of 16 Formula 1 races. In the Italian Grand Prix at Monza held just four weeks after Enzo’s death, the McLaren of Ayrton Senna was in the lead ahead of the Ferraris of Gerhard Berger and Michele Alboreto. With to laps to go, Senna made a critical error and crashed. This left Berger and Alboreto to finish first and second in the first Italian Grand Prix after Enzo’s death. The tifosi swarmed the track and the cars, reinforcing the legend of Ferrari. This is the car that Gerhard Berger drove to victory on that fateful day.
