Do you crave all this but just don’t have the funds to get a team and an insane rally car put together?
Well, rally fans rejoice! You can live out those fantasies on your PC right now by playing Dirt Rally in the comfort of your own home. Don’t worry if you are not a PC gamer though, come April 5, 2016 you will be able to feel the same rush on either your PS4 or XBox One consoles.
Dirt Rally, the newest title in a series of rally-esque games by Codemasters has gone through rigorous fan testing in the early access release and is now a pure expression of rally off road racing. According to the game makers, it captures the essence of what makes rallying unique – that sense of trying to remain calm and in control as your hurl along dangerous, daunting roads at balls-to-the-wall speeds, trying to squeeze everything out of your car to gain that fraction of a second, all while knowing that one slip up could cause a horrific crash.
With this new release in the series, the simulation of driving has been completely rebuilt to adequately capture every moment of how it feels to race across changing surfaces. Loose surfaces will actually collect under the wheels during lateral slides creating a brand new and life-like feel when cornering, which creates a realistic challenge as you pilot one of the games 25 different rally cars through over 50 different realistic stages, including some of the greats like Pikes Peak USA, Powys Wales, and Monte Carlo Monaco. The ever changing weather on the stages will add additional challenges as players, or drivers, could be facing dry, overcast, sunny, misty, wet, rainy or snowy conditions. For the die-hard fans, if you really want to be part of the elitists take on the stages at night.
Just remember that off road racing, in real life and in the game, is tough and unforgiving. Just as if you were in a real car, you will have to make sure that your vehicle is setup and tuned properly each time you get on a stage and competing will cause your vehicle to suffer horrendous wear and tear.
Luckily for you though, in Dirt Rally you can hire engineering staff to tune, repair, and upgrade your vehicle between stages. This new feature allows you to drill down and hire a team based on contract length, wage demands, and on the insight they can offer over upgrades to the vehicles you own. If you keep renewing contracts with engineers you’ll be able to give them perks that will enable you to upgrade your vehicles faster. This amazing change adds even more realness to the environment, where as in previous games of the series you were required to do everything on your own with out the assist of a crew.
