Louis the L200 to Overland across Iceland for Charity
[dropcap style=”style1″]E[/dropcap]xpedition has always played a large role throughout human history. Even today, in a world of maps, GPS, and the Internet, it seems like expedition is all but lost. Surprisingly it’s quite the opposite. Exploration is still huge in the modern world, whether it’s a personal goal, challenge, or for the pure sense of adventure. While most of us become stuck in the daily grind, it becomes easy to forget what people are capable of. Matt McHugh and Rhys Rowlands are here with Operation RagnaroK to remind us that the world is such a large place.
Planned as a month long expedition across Iceland, Matt and Rhys plan on driving “Louis”, the little Mitsubishi L200 across volcanoes and glaciers on a treacherous journey in order to raise charity money for Poppyscotland. Poppyscotland is an organization that supports Scotland’s ex-servicemen, servicewomen, and their families under hardship. Both Matt and Rhys have been helped under Poppyscotland in the past, and given the opportunity to migrate back into civilian life after suffering health hardships. They bid to raise £5,000 on their expedition to give back to the community that has helped them so much.
With support from Belmont Mitsubishi, “Louis” the L200, nicknamed after The Incredible Hulk actor Lou Ferringo, has been outfitted for overland travel and is up for the task. With over a year and a half of practice and planning, Matt and Rhys are confident they can tackle the “final destination of the gods” and will finally cure the itch as their ferry leaves on the 26th of this month.
“The guys at Belmont have been brilliant and instrumental in keeping us to our timetable. Many thanks to them! Rhy’s and I are really looking forward to the challenge and are itching to get on the ferry.” Exclaims Matt.
