[dropcap style=”style1″]T[/dropcap]anner Foust was untouchable this past weekend at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park where he dominated both days of the 2016 season-opening Red Bull Global Rallycross double header in Phoenix, Arizona.
On Saturday May 21, Foust had strong momentum throughout the day. He won both heats and the semi-final earning him the ability to choose his lane for the final. Foust flew out of the gates with an early lead and never looked back claiming the over all win.
His teammate Scott Speed battled for second as the race went on, giving the team a chance at a 1-2 finish. However, late in the race mechanical issues dropped Speed from the runner-up position giving Patrik Sandell the opportunity to inherit second place. Meanwhile Brian Deegan, advanced his way from the last chance qualifier into a third place finish in the final for his first full season of GRC since 2013.
Sunday, May 22, seemed as though it was a replay of the day before as teammates Foust and Speed swept their heats and semi finals to sit on the front row of the final race, where once again, they flew off the starting grid with speed and precision maintaining first and second place while the battle for third occurred behind them.
The third spot on the podium came down to Sebastian Eriksson, whose brand new Honda coupe had fell victim to a fire in Saturday’s final race. Eriksson had also been looking to earn podium points on both days of the doubleheader. Despite his car catching fire, Eriksson managed to hold the onto the third place position while crossing the finish line on the checkered flag, earning Honda Red Bull Olsbergs MSE a trophy in its first race with a brand new car after mechanics spent all night getting the teams vehicle ready.
